Is Bail Bonding Really That Facinating?
September 22, 2008Top 5 Questions About Bail Bonds
Last week I was at a seminar unrelated to bail bonds and I really took notice of how many questions people ask about the business when they find out that I’m a bondsman. Sometimes I think people are just making small talk. Certainly, “what do you do?” is a common cocktail party or first introduction question. Perhaps people ask me questions about “bail bonding” because most everyone is at least vaguely familiar with the Dale Carnegie principles about taking a genuine interest in others. Plus, we all know that if we ask about the next guy, we won’t have to carry the conversation.
For whatever reason, I do think people tend to ask more questions when they hear that I’m in bail bonds. So, I compiled a top five list of most asked bail bond questions from this recent seminar…
5. How did you get into the bail bond business?
Basically, I got married. The bail bond business came with the package. Other people start a bail bond business in other ways.
4. Isn’t your business driven by people getting into trouble?
My answer, “Everybody needs help sometimes.” After thinking more about it, it occured to me that most businesses are born of some need.
3. Are there times of day when you are significantly busier – like late at night?
Quite simply: No. Unfortunately there is no real trend to our business. That sure would be nice, though.
2. Have you ever tracked the number of bonds that are related to alcohol?
Again, no. This never occurred to me. And, I’d never heard this question before.
And, the Number 1 Question asked: Are you actually a bail bondsman… like Dog the Bounty Hunter?
No, I’m not a “bail bondsman like Dog the Bounty Hunter.” Dog is a Bounty Hunter; he puts people back in jail. To the contrary, I get them out.
