What Happens When Protesters Are Arrested

November 17, 2008
With the recent California Proposition 8 protests and arrests, many people have asked me if we bail such protesters out of jail.

Basically, the process for arrest of protesters is the same as other arrests: they are taken to the local jurisdiction jail, processed with fingerprints and checked for warrants.

In my experience as a bondsman, assuming no warrants, or resisting arrest, etc., most otherwise peaceful protesters are simply given a citation with a promise to appear in court at the required time. Bail is not generally necessary for protesters who are arrested.
