Dog The Bounty Hunter, God and Tony Robbins
August 11, 2009
I am not a Dog the Bounty Hunter fan, per se. However, when people first find out that I’m a bail bondsman the question of “Dog” inevitably comes up. So, I follow Duane Chapman, aka “The Dog”, to some limited extent.
I recently ran across an article where I learned something new about Chapman - a Tony Robbins influence:
Chapman also said that, besides religion, “my changing point was Anthony Robbins.”
When they first met, he says, Robbins said to him: “You’re the greatest challenge of my life.” They embarked on a partnership of sorts, as Robbins took him under his wing and on the road, teaching him public speaking and how to learn from one’s mistakes, and then how to use those skills and that knowledge to help others. Chapman was featured in one of Robbins’s book and he took many of his courses, he says, because “my training was the ghetto and the reservation.”
Today, when Chapman is on speaking engagements, he doesn’t do a lot of advance preparation, knowing that people want to hear about his upbringing, his misspent youth and his stint in prison for murder. They want to hear stories from the show, and they want to know how he turned his life around, and how he’s helping others do the same.
“People have said (my performance) is a cross between motivational and preaching,” says Chapman.
I would have to agree with one comment noted on this article, “Dog the bounty hunter and Tony Robbins, that’s as unlikely a pairing as it is likely, I suppose. Two very dynamic yet different public characters.”

Even though on the surface, I shouldn’t like a lot about the “Dog The Bounty Hunter Show,” I find myself always keeping the station locked on when I catch it on TV….Being in the industry, some of the production is questionable, but I think there’s a lot to be said about Dog’s charisma and entertainment value.

I have to agree, Matt. I actually caught my first episode last year when I was going to start this blog – looking for something to write about. There is a strange likeability about the show. Seems like I shouldn’t enjoy it because I spend so much time explaining, “No, our business is nothing like Dog the Bounty Hunter,” but what can I say?

Me and my husband caught Dog (and guest) eating a burger and fries at Islands in Santa Clarita not too long ago. He’s a ‘charasmatic’ fellow, isn’t he?
