Early Release for Sonoma County Jail Inmates

The new state law has allowed almost seven times more inmates, than were originally estimated, to be released from a Sonoma County Jail.

Santa Barbara Jail in Lockdown

When you think Santa Barbara you likely think of it’s beautiful beaches, but this week, the city makes a different headline – the Santa Barbara Jail spent the weekend in lockdown after the third violent incident in the past month; this time a stabbing. The attack occurred in the early hours of this past Good Friday morning and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff is still investigating.
The stabbing left the victim with serious injuries that required a hospital visit and stitches. It also resulted in a facility-wide weekend lockdown for the rest of the inmates. Authorities do Read more »
Santa Barbara Seeks Bail Bond Suit Dismissal
Written by 888BailBond Bondsman on April 4, 2010 – 4:50 pm -Santa Barbara County attorneys are attempting dismissal of a lawsuit filed by local bail bondsmen. The bondsmen’s suit alleges that Santa Barbara Sheriff Bill Brown, and others, prevented defendants in jail from making free phone calls to the Santa Barbara bail bonds companies, which resulted in a loss of business. But the attorneys’ motion contends that there is no legal basis for this suit.
Securus Technologies and Evercom Systems, companies that provide the Santa Barbara jail phone systems, have also been named in the suit. In May of 2007, Brown entered into an agreement with these two companies that allowed him to monitor, control, record, end and block phone calls made from the jail whenever he chose. This comes only one day after Fresno’s Sheriff Margaret Mims won a lawsuit against Fresno County Supervisors. Sheriff Deputies Activities with Bakersfield Bail Bondsmen Investigated
Written by Robin Sandoval-March on April 3, 2010 – 5:32 am -BAKERSFIELD, CA – When the Kern County Sheriff knocked loudly and aggressively on the door of Star Hills, she immediately grabbed her video recorder. What happened next is under investigation. Reportedly, the Kern County Sheriff and three bail bondsmen entered Ms. Hills home together, without her consent.
The Sheriff and Bounty Hunters were looking for a Mr. Joseph Baker who had been charged with a misdemeanor assault upon a peace officer and apparently missed a court date. At the time of entry, Baker was not at the house, however they still entered the premises.

4 Arrested While Visiting Bakersfield Jail
Written by 888BailBond Bondsman on April 1, 2010 – 6:45 am -Recently, Bakersfield jail deputies arrested four jail visitors for committing a felony on jail grounds. In three separate incidents, deputies also discovered three visitors who were known felons on jail grounds, the Kern County Sheriff’s Department admitted.
Three individuals have criminal records, and are therefore banned from visiting jails and violated the law by coming anyway. Deputies also searched the visitors’ cars and discovered more incriminating contraband soon after their arrest.
