Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds Urges Safety This Halloween

Written by Bail Expert on October 28, 2011 – 5:00 pm -

With a busy Halloween weekend at hand, the bondsmen at Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds remind you of the the importance of safety. Halloween means family fun, but sometimes people go to excess too little precaution or with too much fun, too candy or too much alcohol.

They are also reminding parents to adhere to some rules of thumb while out and about this Oct. 31.

  • Urge children to use common sense.
  • Remind children they are not to enter the home of a stranger.
  • Have kids stick to trick-or-treating in neighborhoods they know.
  • Ensure that costumes are visible in the dark so that passenger vehicles can see them.  Reflective tape and/or using glow sticks can help drivers see children as they dart around the street.

If your adult fun included alcohol, be wise; do not drink and drive. Not only will police throughout California be out in force all weekend, but drunk driving can be deadly. So, be safe:

  • If you’re going out drinking, plan ahead how you will get home
  • Have a designated driver
  • If someone your with has been drinking, contact friends or family, or call for a cab
  • Never let an intoxicated person drive themselves home, even just around the corner.

If you or someone you know does get arrested for a DUI, you may not need bail. This Read more »

Will Halloween DUI Checkpoints Scare Drivers Into Maintaining Sobriety?

Written by Bail Expert on October 28, 2011 – 5:45 am -

Many holidays, Halloween included, are oftentimes linked to a spike in DUI arrests. Reporting that sobriety checkpoints will be set up throughout California this weekend to ensure drivers, passengers and pedestrians remain safe while celebrating Halloween.

The Los Angeles Police Department is advising that those who are attending parties to plan a safe way hope prior to arriving and/or to designate a sober driver to get them home at the end of the night. It’s also recommended those who have had a few too many drinks call a taxi, friend, roommate, or family member or to take public transportation to get home.  It’s further suggested that if you see someone who is visibly impaired who is about to get behind the wheel, to take their keys and assist in getting them home safely.

In our experience, most people who are arrested for first time DUI are Read more »

Five Orange County Jail Inmates Found Guilty

Written by Bail Expert on October 27, 2011 – 6:35 pm -

Five Orange County jail inmates have been convicted of second-degree murder after being found guilty of beating a fellow inmate to death at the Theo Lacy Jail.

The 2006 beating reportedly occurred because the defendants believed the inmate to be a child molester. Jurors found Garret Eugene Aguilar, Stephen Paul Carlstrom, Jared Louis Petrovich, Miguel Angel Guillen, and Raul Villafana,  guilty of the crime.  They all face 15 years to life.

A grand jury probe concluded that the beating death grew out of an institutional culture that allowed inmates to run the jails while deputies watched television and slept at times,” wrote OC City News Service reporter Paul Anderson. “[Former OC Sheriff's deputy Kevin Taylor] has been accused of watching ‘Cops’ and text-messaging during the beating, just about 68-feet away from the blind spot at the jail.” Prosecutors issued a scathing report on Read more »

Jails Can Be Scary Year-Round, Not Just On Halloween

Written by Bail Expert on October 24, 2011 – 10:01 am -

Halloween is upon us and that means ghouls, goblins and other things that go bump-in-the-night are steadily increasing.

Should you find yourself arrested and being taken to jail during while trick or treating, although you will likely not be in a haunted jail; the sounds of rattling metal (keys and handcuffs) and slamming doors (the opening and closures of jail cells) can still be enough to give you goosebumps.

Regardless as to when a person is arrested, the one, year-round common denominator of wanting to get out (and fast!) remains the same.

If you’re arrested this Halloween, the good news is Read more »

Hiring Freeze Lifted At SDPD But Staffing Remains Low

Written by Bail Expert on October 23, 2011 – 8:00 am -

The San Diego Police Department has 1,837 officers on staff, which is the lowest level in a decade.  Despite rookies and recruits coming through the police academy, “sources within the department said a reduction in benefits will likely cause dozens of officers to turn in their resignations in April 2010,” reports KUSI News 10.

264 officers resigned in 2009 after a marked change to their benefits.  At the current time, sources within the SDPD say there’s “no way to know how many officers will leave the ranks” this time around.

“Once Upon A Time” There Was A Bail Bondsman

Written by Bail Expert on October 21, 2011 – 4:10 am -

…well, that’s the way most dreams begin around this office…

With the success of shows like “Dog the Bounty Hunter”, it’s only logical that the first mental image that people have when they think of bail bondsmen is that of big, burly tattooed guys with braided ponytails.  For people who work within the industry, however, that notion is, well, laughable.

On Oct. 23 ABC will be debuting “Once Upon a Time“, a show which will take things to a very far other end of that spectrum.

The show’s heroine, Emma Swan; is a 28-year-old bail bondsman. But when Henry – the son she gave up 10 years ago – finds her, “everything changes.” She’s not exactly the soccer-mom bail bondsman you may find at our office.

Henry is desperate for his mom’s help and thinks that Emma is actually the long, lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming.  Even stranger, he believes that Story Brooke, the sleepy New England town he calls home, is really part of a curse cast by the Evil Queen.  He also believes that his adopted mother, Regina, is none other than the Evil Queen herself!

There are any number of directions the show’s writers could go with this.  The show’s creators talk about using it as a platform to discuss things like “Why is Grumpy grumpy?” or “Why is Geppetto so lonely that he’s forced to create Pinocchio for companionship?”

But maybe, just maybe, they’ll get Read more »

Written by Bail Expert on October 20, 2011 – 2:26 pm -

The LA Times Tuesday reported that two proposals; which provide for greater employee scrutiny; were unanimously approved.

One of the plans, backed by Supervisor Gloria Molina, called for implementing recommendations made earlier by an outside monitor, including installing surveillance cameras, eliminating the use of heavy flashlights and steel-toed shoes, and banning deputies from striking inmates in the head.

The other plan, backed by Read more »
