A spokesperson for the San Jose PD said they have arrested 10 gang members. Those taken into custody are suspected to be involved two murders that took place earlier this summer. The killings took place in an East San Jose neighborhood in May and June, approximately one month apart.
Thirteen of San Jose’s 35 killings this year are reported to be gang related.
Adrian Alaniz, Erik Hernandez, Juan Castillo, Eduardo Magana, Ramon Ramirez, Thomas Leyva and Juan Pineda were arrested on Oct. 3. These men and an additional unnamed juvenile are suspected to be involved in the May 16 shooting death of Ricky Jacques. Another man was severely beaten during the attack but survived. Five days later the San Jose PD arrested another group of suspects believed to have murdered another young man, Leonel Garias, on June 12. Luis Ramos and Jose Gutierrez were booked and charged in conjunction with the crime.
The San Jose PD has declined to comment on the investigations that led to the arrest of the above named suspects. They did, though, state that residents are becoming increasingly frustrated with gang related violence and are increasingly coming forward with anonymous tips. The department said they will continue with efforts to reduce gang related crimes.
