A 23 year-old Santa Monica man has found himself in pretty hot water after authorities learned he’d stolen a wheel, and a tire off a parked vehicle.
Authorities said they learned about the alleged crime just after 5 a.m., when dispatch officials received a call about some trouble that was brewing on Marguerita Ave.
When the got there, they found the witness to the crime yelling quite loudly—they were trying to rouse the person whose car had been targeted. The witness told police that a young man had been spotted stealing a tire and a wheel off a car. The thief then made his getaway in a sedan, he said.
According to a report by the Santa Monica Mirror, the escape vehicle was tracked down within minutes. Police questioned him about why his hands were dirty but the story didn’t hold up. A subsequent search of the man’s residence uncovered the stolen goods.
The unnamed male has since been arrested and booked at the Santa Monica Jail on $61,000 bail bonds.
