The Disney Star will be partying, drinking, and getting crazy with her girlfriends, she told US Weekly. In one scene, the coeds even wind up robbing a restaurant as a means of funding the trip. Although the edgy part is a far-cry from her off-screen persona, Gomez said she was up for the challenge and embraced the role. Viewers should keep in mind that movie-set jails are quite different from what celebrity female arrestees like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan experienced when they were booked into the Lynwood Jail, the Los Angeles County women’s jail.

As far as having concerns about her younger, tween-fans sneaking into the film, Gomez said she’s not worried. The film, written by Harmony Korine, will be released as independent, she said. It will be shown globally at a number of film festivals and will be less-easy to access than films released to main-stream theaters.

Production for the film is set to begin in the early part of this year. No word as to if a bail bondsman will be used by the Gomez character.

Gomez first got her start in 1992 when she was cast to play Gianna in Barney & Friends. Since that time she has stared in Spy Kids, 3-D: Game Over; the 1996 made for TV movie Brain Zapped; and has played varying roles in series such as Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place. She has starred in a number of Disney Channel Original Movies and currently has a recording contract with Hollywood Records. Her most recent single, Love You Like A Love Song is ranked number 23 on the The Billboard Top 40.

I didn’t need to see the morning news to find out that the LAPD cleared out the Los Angeles Occupy site. Instead, we were answering calls from family looking to post bail bonds for the protesters.

Apparently, more than 200 Occupy Los Angeles protestors were arrested early this morning in what the Los Angeles Police Department calls a “peaceful sweep”. LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck addressed the media shortly after the disbandment of the camp, saying that the arrests were “mainly peaceful”.

Arrestees were loaded onto buses and taken to the LAPD Metro Jail to be booked and processed. Bail for those that called us was set at $5,000. The jailer at the downtown LA Metropolitan Center Jail told us that protestors would not be released on their own recognizance or “cited out” as protesters usually are. We are somewhat skeptical of that given the already overcrowded Los Angeles jail systems. However, each individual will certainly be screened for warrants on a nation-wide basis. So with so many individuals to book in, any release, be it on bail or otherwise will be hours away.

According to the Los Angeles Times, several hundred police officers arrived at the camp just after midnight and surrounded the encampment and declared it to be an “unlawful assembly”. Occupiers were told if they did not leave within 10 minutes they would be subject to arrest.

Although many complied with the order to leave, others willfully submitted to being arrested. Others, officers said, attempted to hide in trees. LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said he had never before seen more professional and restrained force on behalf of the LAPD. Beck said the raid went as well as could be expected. Many protestors were prepared to be attacked with tear gas. Members of the police department brought in bomb-sniffing dogs, however, tear gas was not used and no explosives were found.

Villaraigosa had previously said the Occupiers would need to abandon the camp outside City Hall by 12:01 a.m. Monday morning. Law enforcement officials have said the raid on the camp was delayed due to strong defiance of the order.

The LAPD had been warned that efforts of defiance could be marked, and were told to “watch each others backs” . They were further warned that gravel, rocks and other items could be thrown at them. The Times also reported that other officers, concerned about the possibility that urine and feces could be thrown at them arrived to the scene wearing white protective body suits.

The Occupy Los Angeles protest began approximately two months ago as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Protesters in Philadelphia have already begun to tweet support for LA Occupiers, saying they have been given a similar order to disband their camp.

The renovations being made at the Burbank Police Department, Jail and Fire Headquarters are fast approaching completion. This is good news for Burbank law enforcement officials, who have been forced to transport arrestees to the Glendale Jail for booking due to the construction. The estimated $9.5 million project is scheduled to be complete in March 2012 and includes upgraded concrete flooring as well as reinstillation of jail security measures such as electronic-locks and doors.

Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds continues with our eleventh series in our California Jails: Inside the Burbank Jail.

Halloween is upon us and that means ghouls, goblins and other things that go bump-in-the-night are steadily increasing.

Should you find yourself arrested and being taken to jail during while trick or treating, although you will likely not be in a haunted jail; the sounds of rattling metal (keys and handcuffs) and slamming doors (the opening and closures of jail cells) can still be enough to give you goosebumps.

Regardless as to when a person is arrested, the one, year-round common denominator of wanting to get out (and fast!) remains the same.

If you’re arrested this Halloween, the good news is that we can assist you in securing bail bonds – even if it happens in the late night or early morning hours.

And if during your time in jail, you seem to be surrounded by devils, witches and (gulp) people dressed up as cast members of the Jersey Shore, we understand you’ll be frightened. But, keep in mind, these people are probably just in costume.

Probably.

Residents of Douglas County have been warned by the Sheriff’s Department of a bail bond scam occurring in the area. A scam artist has contacted a business, pretending to be an employee of the Sheriff’s Office, and asked for money to be wired for a bail bond.

It’s a popular bail scam that people attempt to use all across the country. Sheriff Ken McGovern has warned that anyone contacted by a third party requesting them to post bail for a friend or relative needs to be cautious.

In the most recent attempt at this scam, the individual allegedly contacted the manager of a local business and said that an employee had been arrested for DUI and child endangerment. The manager was told that it would cost $1,634 in order to post a bond for the employee and that the money needed to be wired to him.

The manager was suspicious, though, and contacted the employee via text message, verifying that they had not been arrested. The scam artist hung up after being questioned by the manager.

Spokesman Sgt. Steve Lewis said that Douglas County has many court-certified bail bondsman and that wiring money to a third party is not a part of the process.

In order to verify that someone has been arrested, people can go to the Sheriff’s website, www.dgso.org, or call 785-830-100.

Colorado bill SB11-186, known as the Alternative Bond bill, failed to become a part of Colorado legislation when the 2011 legislative session ended. The purpose of the Alternative Bond is to give Colorado courts the ability to dabble in the bail bond business by accepting a premium that is usually charged by a bail bond agent in exchange for posting bail. The courts, unlike a bail bondsman, would not have to worry about paying the full bond amount if a defendant fails to appear in court and is not brought into custody quickly.

SB11-186 squeaked by in the Senate vote, passing by one (18-17). There wasn’t enough time to get the bill through the House before the end of the session. Alteratively and hopefully, the commercial bail bond industry provided enough evidence and put up a good argument that helped erode support for the bill in the House. When the bill was brought before the House Judiciary Committee, House Sponsor Rep. Waller stated, “I don’t want to see even one bail agent put out of business.”

The Alternative Bond was brought up by the Colorado Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ). Established in 2007, the CCJJ’s mission statement is “to enhance public safety, to ensure justice, and to ensure protection of the rights of victims through cost-effective use of public resources.”

The CCJJ is comprised of public servants, with a possible three members belonging to the private sector. CCJJ supporters of SB11-186 were chastised by Judiciary Committee members for failing to include representatives from the commercial bail bond industry in the discussions of an alternative bail bond concept.

The successful fight by the commercial bail bond industry in Colorado was unprecedented. Representative Waller has agreed to work with members of the bail bond community throughout the year in order to discuss issues regarding problems with the quick release of pre-trial inmates. This is a great opportunity to allow the bail bond industry to participate in creating better solutions.

The U.S. Department of Justice released information according to a study they conducted that found the overall jail population is at a decline as “commercial bail” (or use of bail bondsmen) continues to increase.

The jail population, overall, has declined from 2007 to 2009.

According to Michael Hough, a public safety fellow through the American Legislative Exchange Council, better known as ALEC stated, “This latest study disproves the myth that the use of bail bonds increases the number of people in jail. We now know that this connection cannot be made. The increased use of commercial bail can actually help to alleviate overcrowding in jails.”

An earlier study conducted by the Department of Justice, revealed that the number of individuals who were released from jail on a commercial bail bond, since 1992, increased by 100 percent.

Currently, over 40 percent of individuals released from jail are bailed out via a bail bondsman.

In 2009, the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies, a lobbying association for the elimination of commercial bail bonds, released a report that claimed the pretrial jail population was increasing at a high rate because of commercial bail bonds. A similar argument was made in a three piece report called “Bail Burden Keeps U.S. Jails Stuffed with Inmates,” by National Public Radio.

That information revealed that the number of individuals in jail decreased from the years of 2007-2009, but that the number of inmates in prison continues to grow.

Hough further stated, “Commercial bail is more widely used by local governments and judges because bondsmen are able to quickly free individuals from jail while holding them accountable to return to court to face justice. It is important to note that other factors like a declining crime rate also factored in to the lower jail population, put clearly the anti-private sector bail lobby will have to find something other than jail overcrowding to howl about.”

County Jail.

On Monday, Ryan Martinez of Palmdale had been arrested and taken into the Sheriff’s Station at the Santa Clarita Valley Jail for questioning due to a burglary charge. While Martinez was being held in an interview room within the jail, officials were waiting to perform further questioning until the victim could provide a clear identification of the suspect.

According to officials, they brought the victim into the interview room and while doing so, found a chalky powder type substance on the floor. The inmate, Martinez, had successfully removed the tiles in the ceiling, climbed into the crawl space, then proceeded to replace the tiles in their correct position while escaping the jail.

Immediately after their discovery, officials ordered deputies to surround the building and search the station. Soon after, they found Martinez in the building trying to escape.

Martinez, originally charged with burglary, is now also being charged for attempted escape. He was relocated to the inmate reception center located downtown in L.A. and held on a $130,000 bail.

MENLO PARK, CA - Can anyone say, anger management classes?

In a rage of unknown beginnings, Nikolai Bonds, son of Barry the ’home run king’ Bonds decided to throw a temper tantrum, along with a metal doorknob at his own mother, Sun Bonds. According to the Mercury News, the incident happened during an argument at her home in Menlo Park.

Reportedly, Nikolai spit in his mothers face and followed up by destroying $400 worth of property, which included vases and picture frames. To top it off, he blocked the door so she couldn’t escape.

Bonds was arrested by the Menlo Park Police Department and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, assault and battery, false imprisonment, vandalism and resisting a peace officer. Assistant District Attorney, Karen Guidotti stated prosecutors have held off from filing criminal charges until police can finish work on the case.

Bonds posted a $50,000 bail bond the same night of his arrest and was released. But he’s not out of hot water yet. Menlo Park police are gathering additional information and expect to re-submit the case to San Mateo County prosecutors by the end of the week.

The young Bonds had an earlier warrant out of San Luis Obispo for being a minor in possession of alcohol. He failed to return to court on that issue so the judge ordered a $1,000 warrant for his arrest. Now, both cases in both counties could be prosecuted simultaneously.
