Extraordinary Work in Escondido Honored

Escondido’s Police Department held its annual awards ceremony on March 24, honoring the exemplary work in 2010 by more than three dozen citizens and public safety workers.
Awards were given to those officers and volunteers who went above and beyond their normal duties. This included working to limit gang involvement and helping to move an old communications center from the old police station to the new one, to name a few.

Escondido’s Driver’s License Checkpoint Causes Lawsuit

The Escondido Police Department began conducting driver license checkpoints in 2004 and since then, has been criticized by activist.
A resident of Escondido recently filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit claiming that the City of Escondido violated their own laws when they performed the check point. Rich Dudka, the plaintiff, stated that he was stopped on October 5, 2009 while driving on Escondido Boulevard.
The California Vehicle Code which states, “A peace officer shall not stop a vehicle for the sole reason of determining whether the driver is properly licensed” is the basis for Rudka’s lawsuit against the City of Escondido.

Escondido’s Former Police Station Goes Hi-Tech?

Escondido, California officials proposed a plan Tuesday to transform their old police station into a place for initiating new technology companies, with the intention of attracting higher paying jobs and high-tech businesses.
Escondido’s median income is the lowest of the nine cities in North County San Diego, thus by creating a place for small business startups; it could help increase the city’s income as well as their longtime want of having a technology park, according to Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler.

Suspect Arrested in San Diego Missing Teen Case
Written by 888BailBond Bondsman on March 2, 2010 – 5:59 am -While the search for the girl continues, the search for the individual behind the disappearance of Chelsea King, a seventeen-year-old, straight-A Poway high school student, may be over. The San Diego County Sheriff Deparment says a registered sex offender has been arrested in connection to the missing teen.
John Albert Gardner, 30, of Riverside County was arrested by the San Diego Sheriff Department Sunday afternoon. He is being held without bail at the San Diego Central Jail and is schedule for arraignment on Wednesday.
Chelsea King was last seen jogging in the Rancho Bernardo Community Park on Thursday. Investigators were able to tie Gardner to the crime through physical evidence they discovered during their search of the park.
