With a busy Halloween weekend at hand, the bondsmen at Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds remind you of the the importance of safety. Halloween means family fun, but sometimes people go to excess too little precaution or with too much fun, too candy or too much alcohol.

They are also reminding parents to adhere to some rules of thumb while out and about this Oct. 31.

Urge children to use common sense.

Remind children they are not to enter the home of a stranger.

Have kids stick to trick-or-treating in neighborhoods they know.

Ensure that costumes are visible in the dark so that passenger vehicles can see them. Reflective tape and/or using glow sticks can help drivers see children as they dart around the street.

If your adult fun included alcohol, be wise; do not drink and drive. Not only will police throughout California be out in force all weekend, but drunk driving can be deadly. So, be safe:

If you’re going out drinking, plan ahead how you will get home

Have a designated driver

If someone your with has been drinking, contact friends or family, or call for a cab

Never let an intoxicated person drive themselves home, even just around the corner.

If you or someone you know does get arrested for a DUI, you may not need bail. This varies based on the jurisdiction and the circumstances. If you call us, we will provide you help based on your specific circumstances for any California jail. (Our number is 1-888-224-5266; it’s easy enough to remember from the drunk tank: 888-BAIL-BOND; 8+8+8=BAIL BONDS 24 Hours!)

Located in Los Angeles, Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds is a family-owned and operated company consisting of licensed bail agents with many years of experience.

ExpertBail is a networking organization that acknowledges the best in this field. They distinguish their selection of bail bondsman by the companies who exert a professional attitude, trustworthiness and ethical attributes, the opposite of what most media outlets portray.

AIA, the leading bail bonds underwriting company, located in Los Angeles and run by the Nairin family, developed the ExpertBail network.

ExpertBail’s major contribution is providing families and communities in California information on where and how to find the highest quality and most professional bail bond agents the state has to offer.

Greg Rynerson spoke on the behalf of his bail bonds company, “As a bondsman, we’ve always struggled with the stereotype of the neon sign and cigar filled room. For the professionals amongst bail companies, nothing could be further from reality. I applaud AIA and ExpertBail for helping to shine a light on the stand-out bondsmen in our industry. I’ve been proud to be affiliated with the Nairin family, AIA and now with ExpertBail.”

ExpertBail has set standards that each bail bond company must meet in order to obtain this recognition as bail experts, which includes their level of experience, trustworthiness and professionalism. For those who are in need of a quality bail bond company, they will be able to access this information at ExpertBail.com.

ExpertBail is the first national network for the bail bond industry. They help clients obtain the most professional and ethical bail bond companies. ExpertBail consists of the best and most experienced bail agents in the industry.

AIA or Allegany Casualty, International Fidelity and Associated Bond is the largest and oldest family run bail bond company. They have over 150 years experience and backs the ExpertBail network.

KeepBailing? What does that mean?

We’ve been surprised how many people visit our blog and enjoy the news stories on celebrity and sports star arrests, jail issues, and police crack-downs, but don’t realize that we are a licensed, professional California bail bond company.

Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds is owned and operated by Greg Rynerson and his wife, Tonya. Greg’s dad, Cal, started a bail bond business in Orange County, California in 1971. When Cal retired, Greg had a career in the insurance industry and the business was sold. Years later, Greg started his own bail company.

Now, we’re a thriving, family owned business. We’re a mom-and-pop company that uses technology and an network of agents throughout the state to serve every jail in California. Often, potential clients assume that we are one of the larger bail companies in the state. In reality, we’re a small bail family that cares about the individuals we work with and goes the extra miles to meet their needs. We hope you enjoy our blog and if you ever need a bail bond, we’ll be here for you.

Soles4Souls distributes shoes free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 5.5 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. Donating one pair every 9 seconds!

Like me, if you have a few (or more) pair of shoes sitting in your closet collecting dust, won’t you consider donating them to someone in Haiti who can put them to good use at this time? Shoes and monetary donations will continually be accepted by the organization. For more information visit their website at www.Soles4Souls.com.

Bondsmen came from as far as San Diego to support Carmen Trutanich, who is running for Los Angeles City Attorney. Mr. Trutanich is seeking office for the first time.

Bail bondsmen have not often come together to support political candidates. So, why are we supporting Carmen Trutanich in his bid?

Photo: Greg & Tonya Rynerson, “Nuch” & Noreen Trutanich

Carmen Trutanich is running for Los Angeles City Attorney on the platform of crime fighter – something we can all easily support. Trutanich was Deputy District Attorney and comes with a fabulous background on being hard on criminals, add to that a good record in environmental crime.

The grandson of immigrants, a hard working family man, supportive father, with a lovely wife. “Nuch” as he’s known to family and friends, has been a soccer coach, a life-long runner (which is how he met his wife). And, the clincher – he’s a genuinely nice person, with the emphasis duly put on geniune.

His endorsements are impressive: first, and perhaps foremost, having been asked to run by the well-respected District Attorney, Steve Cooley. Most recently, Trutanich was endorsed by The Los Angeles Times.

But endorsements for a nice guy are not why the bail indsutry in California is supporting Carmen Trutanich for Los Angeles City Attorney.

Bail bondsmen from Los Angeles and beyond are supporting Trutanich because we need someone who understands the value of the bail industry; someone who will not allow bail scams, unscrupulous bondsmen, illegal access to bail information to continue in Los Angeles to the detrament of the people of Los Angeles. The bail system in America serves a significant purpose to protect those wrongly accused and to keep the public safe on the most base level. Carmen Trutanich understands these principles.

It used to be when you Googled “bail out” you’d find your local bondsman. Now, that search gives you the same Google Ads for bail bonds, but all of the search results refer to the economic situation.

Today’s Los Angeles Daily News, however, managed to combine the two with Tony Castro’s story: Bondsmen Are Starting to Bail Out. Don’t let the newspaper’s picture and the headline fool you. The only bailing out that Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds is doing is bailing people out of jail.

While it hadn’t occurred to me, I was recently asked if our business was recession proof. Honestly, I don’t think any business is immune to the effects of the economy. Yes, in bail bonds, people continue to have a need regardless of the economy, but the ability to pay, and more over, the willingness to pay is impacted. We offer payment plans where it’s appropriate and perhaps more people this year have needed them.

Technology isn’t the only thing that’s changed since my father, Cal Rynerson, opened his Orange County bail bonds company in 1971. The Internet, fax machines, and cell phones have all changed how customers find us and how we do business. Another big change has been in how bail bondsman are trained and licensed.

Unlike 30 years ago, it’s now possible to wake up one morning, say: “Hey! I think I’ll become a bail bondsman!” and about 6 months later open your own company. Sometimes, the old ways really were better.

When Dad became a bondsman, he was required to complete what was called an apprenticeship with another licensed California bail agent. After learning the business and basically getting the approval of the licensed agent, the apprentice could get licensed and go out on his own. The licensed agent would invite an apprentice into the business and sponsor him.

My father worked with a bondsman named Pete Devitch. Pete is a bit of legend in the bail industry. I remember Pete as a colorful guy, full of great stories, who always carried around a wad of hundreds.

The apprenticeship process seems slow and cumbersome today, but it gave a beginning bondsman extensive experience dealing with the court system, with customers, and most importantly learning to access risk (which protects the bondsman, the court’s interest and the public) before working independently.

I got licensed in 1986 and worked part time for my father. I guess you could call that my apprenticeship because I did enough to get my feet wet and see how the business worked. You might assume that, growing up with it, I’d have known more about the bail bond business already, but Dad didn’t talk about it much at home. Unlike Pete, he wasn’t a real colorful, talkative guy. Dad was quiet and professional and didn’t fit the public’s image of a bail bondsman. I guess Tonya and I don’t either.

I was fresh out of college in 1986, but I knew enough to get licensed. And, when Dad retired and offered me the business, I knew enough about the risks and the 24×7 commitment to clients to decline the offer to take over the business. By the time I entered the bail bond business full-time in 2001, I understood what I was getting into and the personal and financial implications.

Contrast that to someone enters the business on impulse and thinks of it as a way to make easy money. He could literally get up one morning, complete 12 hours of study, obtain a bail license in about 3 months, find an insurance company to work with and be in business in 6 months.

I’m certainly not criticizing people who want to start their own businesses! I left the insurance industry after over a decade because I got fed up working for a corporation. I’m grateful though, for the knowledge I gained in business – and from life – as I got older. If I had started right out of college, I wouldn’t have had as much experience reading people and dealing with financial matters.

Sometimes, the most important things are those you can’t learn from books – like reading clients, advising them, and assessing risk. Is this person going to jump bail and head to Mexico? Does this mother really understand what she’s doing when she puts up her house for bail collateral? What’s the best information I can give this family about the process and jail system?

I’m glad I had the benefit of my father’s experience when building my own business. Experience and judgment are important no matter what your job, but in this business, they’re critical to our success because we can give better service and advice to our customers at a time when they really need it.
