In the wake of the Bernie Madoff debacle, I thought it would be interesting to discuss the history of some of the longest U.S. prison terms. By the way, Bernie faces a statutory maximum sentence  for his 11 counts of white collar crime – 150 years for which he pleaded guilty in March of this year. But that sentence pales in comparison to others who have had the hammer slammed down upon them.

Another white collar crimer Sholam Weiss, is now serving the longest ever federal sentence. In 2000, a judge in Florida put him away for 845 years for the part he played for millions of dollars lost in the downfall of National Heritage Life Insurance. 

But it gets better folks… The year was 1994. The state, Oklahoma.  Convicted rapist, Darron Bennalford Anderson received a jail sentence of 2,200 years in prison. He actually appealed the conviction and was granted a new trial. Unfortunately for him, the judge convicted him again with an additional 90 centuries! Grand larceny - 500 years, burglary - 1,000 years,  kidnapping – 1,750 years, and rape - 4,000 years… Priceless.

The pièce de résistance and winner of the longest jail sentence ever passed in the U.S. was handed on a platter to Dudley Wayne Kyzer. In 1981 he was jailed  for 10,000 years for a triple murder. One of those he murdered was his wife.  The others were his mother-in-law and a college student.  The court in Tuscaloosa, Alabama sent him to prison until the year 11,981, in which he’s already served 28 years.  Hope he has a Timex.
