Ex-LAPD Detective’s Brother Says Bail is Too High
Written by 888BailBond Bondsman on July 19, 2010 – 6:53 pm -An LAPD detective accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend’s wife in 1986 is being held on a $10 million dollar bail. The brother of the accused says it is an atrocious amount and demands that it be lowered.
Stephanie Lazarus, 49, a 26 year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, is accused in 1986 of shooting and bludgeoning Sherri Rae Rasmussen.
Steven Lazarus, the brother of Stephanie, spoke to media last Friday after a pretrial saying that her bail needs to be lowered because it is an illogical price when compared to celebrity defendants, such as Robert Blake or Phil Spector who were only held on a $1 million bail during their trials.
In June of 2009, Lazarus was arrested after the evidence in the case was re-examined by cold case detectives as they matched a saliva sample from Lazarus to bite marks on the victim.
Lazarus’ bail was set at $10 million by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Robert Perry, under the Read more »
New $74-Million LAPD Jail Remains Locked
Written by 888BailBond Bondsman on June 22, 2010 – 7:48 am -The Los Angeles Police Department’s new Metropolitan Detention Center is set to replace the failing 60 year old Parker Center Jail, but the budget crisis continues to prevent the new jail from opening.
Greg Rynerson Bail Bonds continues with our “Inside the Jail” series this week: Inside the New LAPD Metro Center Jail. Here you will learn:
- The costs and reasons for a new jail.
- Problems at the current Parker Center jail.
- The jail layout and purposes.
- Staffing considerations.
- The benefits of the new jail and the down side.
The $74 million jail is state-of-the-art, but the staffing needs and the city hiring moratorium keep the bars shut. Will Los Angeles make an exception and allow hiring of new jail staff? Or, will there be a major crisis at Parker Center?
If there’s a jail you’d like to “go inside,” let us know and we’ll add it to our series.

St. Patrick’s Day 2010 — L.A. DUI Checkpoints In Effect
Written by Robin Sandoval on March 15, 2010 – 12:37 am -
LOS ANGELES (03/15/10) – “Beware the Ides of March!” If you’re not Roman, you know what to beware of… break out your old, dusty green T-shirts, “Kiss Me I’m Irish” buttons, Shamrock earrings and good luck green socks, because St. Patrick’s Day is on it’s way - Wednesday, March 17th.
But don’t let this mid-week holiday fool you for one minute. State wide law enforcement will be in place. So if you’re caught driving under the influence of too many green beers, well, you’ll going to be arrested and charged with DUI. You’ll also be fined, lose your driving freedom and spend the night in jail. Fun, huh?
Now, I apologize for putting a damper on one of the years funnest holidays, but I want to make sure we all make it home safely – after our green day celebrations.
There will be several events in Los Angeles. Like the St. Patrick’s Day parade, the LA County Irish Fair, the Orange County Marketplace St. Patrick’s Day Festival, and the St. Patty’s Fest in Hollywood. Then again, there’s the many cool Irish pubs and Taverns peppered about town. A great time to be had by all!
But be mindful. Public drinking laws may also be enforced on the street. Don’t get caught with a brew in hand at a public parade. Most city ordinances prohibit folks from possessing open containers in public places.
During the week of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Los Angeles Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints around the city in an effort to keep the streets of L.A. safe. Below are some of the checkpoints Read more »
LA Budget Crisis Creates Inmate “Early Release” Dilemma
Written by Tonya Rynerson on March 6, 2010 – 4:26 am -Nonviolent inmates who are currently in a Los Angeles County jail could serve only 80% of their jail terms. And, according to department officials, that number could be knocked down to them serving only 50% of their sentences.
So what’s happening here? LA County Sheriff Lee Baca stated that these early release sentences for inmates may be the future of what’s “inevitable” as the county’s budget crisis continues. The Department currently faces a $128 million budget gap.

Ex-LAPD-Cop Turned Bondsman Charged Bail Scam
Written by Tonya Rynerson on February 7, 2010 – 8:22 am -Edwin Sunmin Lee, 39, retired from the Los Angeles Police Department in April 2005 after he confessed to a felony charge for filing a false police report. (Not sure how he got his bail license, because you’re supposed to have a clean record.)
Surprise! – now he is allegedly in trouble once more. The Hacienda Heights area ex-cop-turned-bail-bondsman has plead not guilty to charges that he illegally solicited bail from inmates in local jails. County District Attorney’s officials have accused Lee of no less than six felony counts. The incidents that led to his arrest supposedly took place at the Van Nuys jail on or about July 27, 2008 and Feb. 10, 2009.
Ironically, Lee does not have to be bailed out of jail himself (good thing, because Read more »
LAPD Uses Futuristic Technique to Nab Alleged Kidnapper
Written by Robin Sandoval on February 3, 2010 – 9:12 pm -The LAPD may have launched the future of crime fighting when they recently cracked the case of alleged kidnapper, Daniel Merino, AKA the “spiky-hair suspect.”
By using the latest in high-tech policing methods, detectives on the case implemented the use of enhanced video from a security camera to determine the make, model, color and year of the suspects car. The new high-tech camera device installed on a police car can detect and read every license plate it sees. This played Read more »
