Plea Deal and No Jail Time for Mel Gibson

On Wednesday, actor and director Mel Gibson, reportedly made a plea deal with prosecutors, which involves no jail time, for the domestic charges he was arrested on last year.  According to the L.A. County DA’s office, on Friday, Mel Gibson will go before the court and plead no contest to a smaller misdemeanor battery charge in regards to his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva.

An anonymous source who is directly engaged with the case revealed to the Associate Press that Gibson would be able to undergo counseling instead of serving time in jail. As bail bondsmen, this is consistent with first time domestic violence charges received by a defendant in Los Angeles County. In other words, it does not appear that Gibson is getting any special treatment.

Deputy Who Arrested Mel Gibson is Suing LA Sheriff’s Department

The L.A. Sheriff’s deputy, responsible for the 2006 arrest of Mel Gibson for drunk driving, is suing his department in claims that he’s been ostracized and dismissed for promotions by the department since the arrest took place.

The lawsuit details repercussions for Deputy James Mee’s emotional distress, mental suffering as well as damages for the loss of income, medical bills, and benefits. Mee claims his superiors forced him to remove any reference to anti-semitic slurs by Mr. Gibson.  Furthermore, the racial comments and slurs appeared to have been leaked on a celebrity website.

Mel Gibson’s Arrest Sparks Media Leak Debate

Mel GibsonIn more celebrity arrest news, Mel Gibson’s conviction for drunk driving was finally expunged this week.  He has met the requirements of his probation after his 2006 drunk driving arrest.

However, in an attempt to uncover what some are saying was a media leak from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, authorities have discovered two calls were made to Harvey Levin of TMZ the exact day of Gibson’s arrest.
