Q: What is the importance of Neighborhood Watch in keeping crime rates in Rancho Bernardo so low?
A: The strength of the Neighborhood Watch as well as the pride of ownership and community is critical to the well-being of the community, and it’s not more evident than in Rancho Bernardo. The community determines the level of crime more than the police department. Police departments react more to crime than they provide prevention.
Q: What is your top safety tip to residents?
A: Take care of your family, be responsible for your home and take care of your neighbors. When everyone does this, it ensures that you’re house is secure. If you know a neighbor is on vacation and see a moving van pull in on Sunday afternoon, call the police. Call. There are so many times where people have said, I thought about calling the police, but I didn’t want to bother you. It’s not a bother to call us. If you think you should call, call.

Suspect Arrested in San Diego Missing Teen Case
Written by 888BailBond Bondsman on March 2, 2010 – 5:59 am -While the search for the girl continues, the search for the individual behind the disappearance of Chelsea King, a seventeen-year-old, straight-A Poway high school student, may be over. The San Diego County Sheriff Deparment says a registered sex offender has been arrested in connection to the missing teen.
John Albert Gardner, 30, of Riverside County was arrested by the San Diego Sheriff Department Sunday afternoon. He is being held without bail at the San Diego Central Jail and is schedule for arraignment on Wednesday.
Chelsea King was last seen jogging in the Rancho Bernardo Community Park on Thursday. Investigators were able to tie Gardner to the crime through physical evidence they discovered during their search of the park.
