New Redwood City Jail
Written by Robin Sandoval-March on July 8, 2010 – 2:30 pm -REDWOOD CITY — The County Board of Supervisors are in talks for a new jail in Redwood City which has a price tag of $18.7 annually – just to staff and operate. This is on top of the $150 million to merely construct the new facility.

Prank Call Lands Man In Redwood City Jail
Written by Tonya Rynerson on July 23, 2009 – 12:54 pm -Prank calls seem to go hand-in-hand with being a teenager. It’s a bit of a right of passage, but prank calls to the authorities are a bit more serious. The Mercury News reports that 10 San Mateo Sheriff units were dispatched after the Redwood City Sheriff dispatch received a call that there had been a shooting.
Finding no victim after a thorough search, Deputies determined the call to be a hoax. After investigation, a 19 year old man was arrested, having allegedly placed the 911 call from a friend’s cell phone he had snatched as a prank.
Placing 911 calls results in Police units traveling at higher speeds than normal to get to the crime scenes and essentially endangers the surrounding public. Fake 911 calls just puts more people in danger and the Police Departments do not take lightly to these crimes; not too mention that additional tax payer’s money.
